Cleve Jones: When We Rise
LGBTQ and AIDS activist Cleve Jones will sign and discuss his memoir, “When We Rise: My Life in the Movement.”
The partial inspiration for the ABC television miniseries, Cleve Jones’s memoir is a sweeping, profoundly moving account of his life from sexually liberated 1970s San Francisco, through the AIDS crisis, and up to his present-day involvement with the marriage equality battle. By turns tender and uproarious, “When We Rise” chronicles the heartbreak of losing countless friends to AIDS; his co-founding of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation; his conception of the AIDS Memorial Quilt; the bewitching story of 1970s San Francisco; and the harrowing, sexy, and sometimes hilarious stories of Cleve’s passionate relationships with friends and lovers during an era defined by both unprecedented freedom and violence alike.
This event is free and open to the public, but proof of purchase of “When We Rise” from Left Bank Books will be required to enter the signing line.
