Composer Series: Beethoven 250th Festival

January 16, 2020   •   7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
  •   Cost: $20

2020 marks the 250th birthday celebration for Ludwig van Beethoven, one of the most beloved and influential composers of all time.

Countless musicians, ensembles, and performing arts organizations around the world will honor his incredible legacy throughout the calendar year. The World Chess Hall of Fame will join the festivities in presenting a 6-concert festival dedicated to some of Beethoven’s greatest works; the Late String Quartets performed by members of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and the Complete Piano Sonatas featuring Peter Henderson in an all-day marathon event on Saturday, August 29, 2020.

Join the World Chess Hall of Fame as they kick off the Festival with the first of his late quartets, the “String Quartet No. 12 in E♭major,” Op. 127. Completed in 1825, this work was the first in a series of three quartets commissioned by Russian patron, Prince Nikolas Galitzin. Highlights of the traditional four-movement work include an extensive slow movement built upon six variations, a jaunty Scherzo, and a rustic Finale.

Performed by: Jessica Cheng, Andrea Jarrett, Andrew Francois, and Jennifer Humphreys.

$10 tickets available for members, seniors, and military. $20 General Admission. Admission includes one free drink and complimentary hors d’oeuvres. To purchase your tickets, click here.
