LBB Foundation presents Jeffrey Zuckerman in conversation with Martin Riker

  • September 19, 2024 • 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join the Left Bank Books Foundation and Left Bank Books as we welcome St. Louis native Jeffrey Zuckerman to discuss his most recent translation of “Jellyfish Have No Ears” by Adèle Rosenfeld. Zuckerman is celebrated in the literary world for his incredible translations. They are excited to welcome him back to St. Louis to discuss the translation for this profoundly moving debut novel.

“Rosenfeld is partially deaf and has found a perceptive translator in Jeffrey Zuckerman, who is deaf and has drawn on a ‘lifetime of lip-reading’ . . . to carry the book’s puns and misreadings into vibrant English. “This holey language will never be deciphered completely,’ Louise thinks, and the homophone ‘holey’ is shrewd, as the gaps in her reality give her an air of oddball mysticism. . . . A note of comic bewilderment recurs throughout Louise’s passage along the broken shore of coherence, and the question is just how far into the tide of static she’ll allow herself to drift.”—Sam Sacks, The Wall Street Journal.

Zuckerman will be in conversation with Martin Riker, an author, Washington University professor, and co-founder of the Dorothy Project.

Zuckerman will personalize and sign copies after the presentation! Personalized and signed copies can be mailed anywhere in the country. Please order customized copies before noon on September 19.
