Explore Two New Exhibitions | Duane Reed Gallery
Gallery Hours:
Tuesday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Duane Reed Gallery is pleased to present new solo exhibitions by Ron Johnson and Kensuke Yamada. These exhibitions will be available for viewing from June 12 through July 17, 2021. Due to COVID-19, this exhibition will not have a traditional opening reception, however their gallery will be open Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for viewing.
Born in Columbus, Ohio in 1968, Ronald Johnson received an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2003. Johnson uses strategically placed canvas strips to act as dam walls to corral the poured paint and polyurethane mix. Each layer must be sanded vigorously to ensure as much precision as possible. The sanding process gives the surface a unique sheen, while simultaneously transparent and opaque, reminiscent of encaustic. Through Johnson’s process, the layers become diffused and viscously permeable, with crisp edges and a traceable lost-and-found history.
Kensuke Yamada (b. 1979) was born in Kamakura, Kanagawa, Japan. “With clay I look for sculptural conversations that evoke the beauty, the subtleties, the sadness and the humor of our everyday life. In viewing my sculpture I hope for people to enjoy the moment, rather than the movement of time. I hope for my work to fill the space between two seemingly distant things, to provide a connection and thus create the story of you and me.”
