Small Business Saturday is November 28 and this year, more than ever, it is important that we support small businesses in our community.
Shopping in the Central West End provides jobs for local people and when you spend money at local businesses, you’re helping to boost the community by stimulating the local economy. It’s a perfect chance to support your city and help the CWE thrive, while also finding great gifts for your friends and family.
We recently caught up with Ericka Frank, owner of The Cup, to learn how your support can help make all the difference for her small business this holiday season.
How has your business been affected by COVID-19?
Ericka Frank: Like many other businesses, we were closed for many weeks and our revenue dropped by about 90% during that time since we were only filling wholesale orders for essential businesses. We are thrilled that our customers were eager to return to enjoying sweet treats when we opened again, so we are gearing up for a strong holiday season!
How can people support you and your small business this holiday season?
Ericka Frank: Make us part of your gift-giving list! Our cupcakes, cookies, gooey butter cake, and even pints of buttercream make excellent personal and corporate gifts. And of course gift cards, too!
Why do you think it’s so important for people to shop small in our community?
Ericka Frank: Small business are what make our community unique, charming, and full of character. Shopping small helps foster community while ensuring our area will not become just a collection of businesses you could find in any other city or area.
Why is being a small business owner important to you?
Ericka Frank: I love seeing the benefits of hard work, and as a small business owner, I have the unique opportunity of seeing products, projects, and team members grow and evolve as the business continues. I want St. Louis and particularly the Central West End to be a draw to locals and visitors because of what they can experience and find here.
