5 to Try: First Dates

So – you finally asked out that special someone! You need to bring the romance, but you’re not quite sure what to do. Don’t worry, we do: the CWE is the answer! There are limitless great, unique and sensational places to take your date. Lucky for you, we’ve been on a few first dates (successful and not-so-much), and we’re willing to share a few tips with you!

Brennan’s
Brennan’s is the perfect place to bring your crush. Nothing says ambience like cozy warm wood paneling and charcuterie plates. Order a glass of wine, and add a little more magic to the conversation. On a blind date? Not sure what to talk about? Pick a topic from the message board. The best part about Brennan’s? Swanky, impressive atmosphere, but affordable; have a great night without breaking the bank.

Philip Slein Gallery
Got a date with an art lover, or maybe you just want to amaze your date with your vast knowledge of contemporary abstract art? Philip Slein Gallery is the space for you. While some galleries only focus on one type of art, the Slein Gallery shows the best work of all media. That’s right, you and your date could see the latest and greatest paintings, sculpture, and drawings all in one evening. Not only is the staff friendly, but very knowledgeable – just in case you’re not completely up on your New American modernistic contemporary zeitgeist art.

Vino Gallery
Couples that learn together stay together, and what’s more fun than learning about wine? Lucky for you the Vino Galley offers Wine 101 – where you can learn how to pair wines, identify regional differences, and hone in on what wines are right for your taste and budget. Already a junior sommelier? Use the opportunity to expand your palette. Worst-case scenario: you’ve tasted a variety of amazing wines.

Evangeline’s Bistro and Music House
Evangeline’s is a friendly place that serves up the best in Cajun/Creole foods. Have a great conversation over a bowl of their famous Championship Gumbo or share a moment over some famous red beans and rice. Not in the mood for Southern-style comfort foods? Evangeline’s has live music every weekend! Food, entertainment and friendly folks are great ways to take some of the pressure of first dates.

The Improv Shop
Looking for a unique date? Why not head to the Improv Shop – because a date without laughter is a date wasted. The Improv Shop is the CWE’s destination for great comedy any day of the week. Check out acts like Meowsers or Pone Pone, or watch competing improv teams duke it out in the Friday Night Cagematch. At just $5 to get through the door, this is a date that won’t break the bank. So, grab a drink at the Improv Shop Bar, and get ready to have a great date!
