5 Things to Do This Weekend in the CWE: Oct. 18-20

Are you not sure what to do this weekend? The Central West End has plenty happening. You can view art at several opening receptions, shop at a new boutique, try new menu items and much more. There’s something for everyone to enjoy in the neighborhood. Here are five things we’re highlighting this weekend.

New Gallery Exhibitions

Visit Duane Reed Gallery to view new exhibitions from Lindsay Pichaske, Kate Anderson, Jane Sauer and Carol Shinn. Pichaske will premiere her lastest body of ceramic fauna. Anderson fiber art focuses on sexuality and the taboo of desire. Shinn uses a vintage sewing machine to “draw” her scenes by guiding the work through the machine by hand, stacking up layers of fiber. Sauer’s fiber work embellishes vintage household textiles to speak about systemic violence and cycles of destruction.

Houska Gallery will have an opening reception featuring artwork by Alicia LaChance in “Walking City” and Kurt Hermann’s “Crispy Clouds”. LaChance’s work explores bold graphic works that create these inventions of landscapes and meditations. Hermann’s new series pushes into territory that is more atmospheric while still grounded and guided by shape and color.

Square One Gallery presents the dual opening receptions of artist Dan Alva’s solo exhibition “Something Out of Nothing”, and artist Kenny Scharf’s “Woodz ‘N Thingz” edition portfolio presentation. Alva’s work reimagines the classics, blending traditional oil painting techniques with modern patterns, creating a striking juxtaposition. Scharf’s exhibition illustrates a constant interplay between ecosystems – the awareness of the observer and the delicacy of the environment.

Enjoy a New Meal| West End Wok

West End Wok has several new menu items that you need to try! Their new Thai Siam Curry features coconut red curry with tofu, bamboo, bell pepper, snow peas, carrots, pineapple, broccoli and basil. Their new Fried Tofu is crispy on the outside, tender on the inside and served with sweet chili sauce. These delicious items make for a perfect midday meal in the neighborhood or wrap up your day with dinner there.

Have Fall Foods| Panera Bread

Even though the weather’s a bit warmer this weekend, you can still enjoy the fall foods you’re craving. Stop in to Panera Bread and order one of their bread bowls. You can pair a bowl with their hearty Mac & Cheese. If you would prefer soup, they offer many options. Their Vegetarian Autumn Squash Soup has returned! This fan favorite is the perfect autumnal food. You can also choose from their Rustic Baked Potato Soup, Cream of Chicken & Wild Rice Soup or Hearty Fireside Chili.
