5 Things to Do This Weekend in the CWE: Feb. 16-18

Who’s ready for the weekend? Visit the Central West End to enjoy art exhibitions, movies, good food and drinks and much more. There’s plenty to do with your family, friends or yourself. Here are five things we suggest you do in the neighborhood this weekend!

View New Art| Duane Reed Gallery

Last week, Duane Reed Gallery opened their new exhibition, “Year of the Dragon”. Featuring 10 artists, the show celebrates Asian American contributions to the arts and the breadth of their identity. You’ll enjoy a variety of works including paintings, sculptures and more. For those looking for fresh, diverse perspectives in art, this exhibition is for you. “Year of the Dragon” will be at Duane Reed Gallery through March 16, so if you can’t make it this weekend, plan to the next.

Go to the Movies| Chase Park Plaza Cinema

If you’ve never seen John Carpenter’s icon movie “The Thing” in theaters, now’s your chance for only $5. The movie, originally released in 1982, is about scientists in the Antarctic that are confronted by a shape-shifting alien that assumes the appearance of the people it kills. If you know fellow sci-fi lovers, invite them along to this special screening! There could be nothing better than enjoying this classic movie in the classic Chase theater. Screenings run from Friday, Feb. 16 through Wednesday, Feb. 21. If “The Thing” doesn’t sound like it’s for you, you can also view new releases and Oscar-nominated movies including “The Zone of Interest”, “American Fiction” and “Poor Things”.

Try Limited-Time-Only Cookies| Insomnia Cookies

Do you have a sweet tooth? If you’re looking for a new treat to try, go to Insomnia Cookies! They are offering a limited-time-only vegan red velvet cookies n’ cream cookie. It’s the same iconic red velvet cookie, packed with sandwich cookie bits and mini vanilla and chocolate chips, but completely vegan. Another cookie you’ll want to try before it’s gone is the Ghirardelli Chocolate lava cake filled deluxe cookie, comprised of Ghirardelli semi sweet chocolate chips, cocoa powder and chocolate filling. Stop by this to weekend to get these cookies before it’s too late!

Shop New Styles| Suitsupply

With spring around the corner, Suitsupply can help you transition your wardrobe for the new season. Check out their clothes in their new peach color which pairs well with white. They have suits, linen shirts, light crewnecks and blazers in the “light pink Havana” shade that would be perfect for spring and especially Easter. Mix and match these items with new off-white cotton pants, linen pants and blazers. Suitsupply provides some of the best in quality, fashionable clothing.

Enjoy a Night Out| Brennan’s

Looking to catch up with a friend? Need a new date spot? Regardless of the reason you’re looking for a night out of the house, Brennan’s is the place to go. Sit down and enjoy small bites like soft pretzels or potato chips and French onion dips. Or, share larger dishes like their tasty black garlic pizza or smoked chicken tacos. You’ll also enjoy their vast selection of wine, beer and classic and inventive cocktails. The delicious food and the dynamic environment makes for the perfect night out.
