Gary Stephan at Philip Slein Gallery

Experience the work of Gary Stephan at Philip Slein Gallery. Stephan is an artist that has had over 70 solo shows in the U.S. and Europe, and almost 200 group exhibitions including the Whitney Biennial, and last year’s Inventing Abstraction show at Cheim and Read.
Stephan is a New York artist whose work focuses on the dichotomies found in the ideas of “presence” and “absence”. Stephan explores these concepts in a visual language through layers of paint, and delicate interplay between foreground, and negative space. Stephan states, “how can one preserve the pleasure of the object and the pleasure of being in the world, and still work on the possibility that this is all nothing, this is all void.”
Explore the possibility of absence bringing pleasure at the opening reception on February 28th at Philip Slein Gallery.

The show will run through March 29th.
