St. Louis designer and owner of KayOss Designs here in the CWE, Amy Johnson is used to receiving odd requests for clothing. However, when she received an email from a television production crew based in Wales, Great Britain she quickly overlooked it thinking “…this can’t be real.” Just a few days later, a producer called and asked that she help Bridgette Jordan, a 27 inch tall, 23 year old, weighing just 18 pounds, achieve her dream of owning a custom made gown.
Bridgette Jordan, along with her brother, are the stars of a reality television series which premiered last night on TLC. Diagnosed with Majewski Osteodysplastic Primordial Dwarfism Type II, both Bridgette and her brother face challenges normal sized adults would never think to imagine. The show, “Big Tiny” will air for four weeks and chronicles the Jordans as “they make something big out of being tiny.”
Johnson created a dress from a sketch that Jordan herself drew, as well as a surprise second dress designed from a popular dress in Johnson’s KayOss line. Even though her height causes her to look up to most toddlers, Jordan is still a 23 year old women, with womanly proportions and a womanly sense of style, making it difficult to find fashionable things that fit. Especially in the infant section where she shops. The dress Johnson created was so flattering on Jordan, that Jordan’s sister decided to use it as the design for her bridesmaid dresses, Bridgette Jordan was maid of honor.
One day Jordan hopes to create her own fashion line that caters to small women who have the same challenges that she does. Thanks to Amy Johnson, Jordan is confident and has been given a great boost to help her succeed.
