St. Louis shoppers looking for a way to “shop small” and “go local” this holiday season are encouraged to check out the Central West End on Saturday, Nov. 25, for Small Business Saturday.

While national retailers are gearing up for Black Friday, Central West End retailers are inviting shoppers to visit their stores for special sales and promotions to help them find the perfect gifts for family and friends. The Central West End — voted one of the nation’s top 10 neighborhoods — is incredibly walkable and offers visitors a variety of amenities and attractions to suit any taste.

“In the Central West End, we celebrate small businesses year round,” says Kate Haher, Executive Director of the Central West End’s North Community Improvement District. “We want to encourage shoppers to think outside the big box stores, and instead check out one of our numerous boutiques, galleries, antique shops and other specialty stores to find unique gifts for your loved ones this holiday season.”

Since 2010, 88 million people have shown up to “shop small” on Small Business Saturday at events around the country.

“The money visitors spend shopping in our district stays here, and it helps support some of St. Louis’ most elegant and eclectic businesses,” Chris Lanter, owner of 10denza, says. “Small Business Saturday is a great opportunity for small retailers to gain exposure and connect with the community, and it’s something we in the Central West End look forward to every year.
