During the summer of 2011, Rain Harris was an artist in residence at the Pottery Workshop in Jingdezhen, China. It was during this time that Harris was inspired by ceramic artisans that replicated flowers into porcelain flowers one petal at a time. When she returned to the US, she combined some of the Chinese techniques with her own.
Harris became an artist known for her extraordinary use of mix media and ceramics to create unique sculpture that will enthrall viewers . Harris often uses black clay for the delicate flowers found in her pieces to contrast with the porcelain’s stark white surface. The resulting piece is gaudy yet hypnotizing-reflecting Victorian sentiments on morbidity and excess.
Don’t miss this chance to see her latest work at Duane Reed, opening February 28th.
Show runs until March 29th.
