Memorial Day 2015
Memorial Day festivities were launched in the CWE Saturday morning when Boy Scout Troop 664 from Immanuel Lutheran Church in Olivette, above, installed American flags on light standards along Euclid Avenue from Washington Avenue to Lindell Boulevard.
This is the second year the scout troop has stepped up to take on the flag project, as a way to give back to the community, fulfilling its slogan, “Do a good turn daily.”
Thanks to the Community Improvement District North which has added this touch of patriotism to the neighborhood for the past 4 years.
The week ahead marks the start of the summer season in the CWE with the first Movies on the Plaza scheduled for Wednesday, and the much-anticipated 45th Annual Central West End Association House Tour this weekend featuring the historic homes on Pershing Place. A lot of effort by many volunteers goes into these events, which in turn benefit a neighborhood that was named one of 2014’s 10 Great Neighborhoods in the U.S. by the American Planning Association.
You can “do a good turn daily” by supporting these activities. Happy Memorial Day.
