projects+gallery is pleased to announce the public opening of Seeing Other People on April 26.

Seeing Other People considers the rhetoric of the constructed self as it is shaped by the act of gazing or being gazed upon. By pairing three historical paintings of women by men with contemporary portraits of women predominantly by women, the exhibit takes as its point of departure the notion that both reading and authoring representational images is a form of feminist resistance.

The show will include a reading and listening room for the public to engage, composed of books and vinyl LP’s that speak to the theme of female self-representation. The opening reception will feature live music by DJ Agile One.

The exhibition will remain on view through Saturday, June 9, 2018.
